Meet my trusty iMac. It's not the latest and greatest from Apple (which I'm usually prone to acquiring), but it is white and impossibly elegant. I actually prefer it to the colder more masculine look of the new iMacs.
I was pondering the purchase of a new iMac to give myself an upgrade in speed and functionality, but after looking into my options I decided that upgrading the RAM, and the Software for my current machine would suit me just fine!
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it's actually very inexpensive to do this:
(Ram + Software Upgrade) = $130 VS. (New Computer) = $2,000
This way I can have a computer that is running the latest and greatest whiz bangs (in this case Snow Leopard, and soon to be Lion), without breaking the bank! I don't think most people realize that it's the software that makes a machine feel fresh for most people.
There are a couple of things to consider:
1. Does this computer still suit my needs?
2. Does it have the proper hardware required for the software upgrade?
If all signs point to YES then upgrade away and enjoy the money you saved :)
Happy Computing!
